Larry as I understand it, Americans will NOT need to do visa applications in person, in advance. It is only those countries that currently have to apply for their visas in advance that will need to apply in person.
Still a terrible decision by Home Affairs, if they follow through with it (implementation was postponed for a year to allow for discussions with industry). But it will not affect the American market.
Having said all that, I’m sure our government considers the fact that South Africans DO in fact have to travel to a major city and hand-carry their visa applications to the American embassy, in order to get a visa for the US. Americans will not tolerate it, but they are happy to insist on it for those who wish to visit the US. Double standards perhaps?
